Encouraging Words

A word spoken in due season, how good it is! Prov. 15:23

I don’t personally know of anyone that doesn’t appreciate an encouraging word, but when it comes at exactly the right time for them…what a wonderful thing indeed!

How do you know when to speak words into someone’s life?

I call it an unction or a nudging in your gut. It’s when you are thinking of someone more than a few times during the day. You hear people say, “You’ve been on my mind” or “…on my heart”? Well, if you’ve got someone on your mind or heart, it’s time to speak into their life!

If the person you need to encourage has “Words of Affirmation” as their primary appreciation language, it will pack a double wallop!

At the end of a particular school year, I was feeling the effects of leadership. The millions of items on the “to do” list, end-of-year report deadlines, keeping the staff encouraged to make it to the finish line, etc. (Similar to the start of a school year minus the overwhelming excitement…ha!) I “just so happened” to run into a retired superintendent that I admire and she said to me, “I heard about your campus’s ______. Simply amazing!”

Those two sentences made all the difference!

The timing of those words couldn’t have been any better. I could tell the compliment was genuine (very important when giving encouragement) and it was just what I needed to hear. She was bragging on my staff and it spoke volumes to my heart. It was confirmation that what our campus was doing was making a difference. Those two sentences carried me through the next month…and beyond!
